March 3, 2023 - Eagle County turns 140 in 2023, and residents are invited to join in the celebration. Eagle County was created by the state assembly on February 11, 1883, and named for the Eagle River. The county is celebrating with a "Then and Now" photo exhibit, a historical speaker series, seedling planting, and many more exciting events.

The 140th-anniversary celebration speaker series continues with a program from Colorado Humanities. Chautauqua-style speaker Angel Vigil portrays “El Vaquero.” In this hour-long program, he takes on the persona of a Spanish/Mexican cowboy. A special feature of the show is the historically accurate costume Angel wears representing the Spanish Colonial Vaquero of the 1700s. Following his presentation, he will take questions as El Vaquero and then come out of character and answer questions as historian Angel Vigil.
