Objectives: This goal focuses on empowering individuals to become advocates for their own healthcare, while also educating healthcare providers on how to best serve the older adult population. Implementation: The current strategy is focused on increasing access to information and tools that help older adults better communicate their unique needs to healthcare professionals. Workisalsobeingdonetoeducate healthcare providers about steps they can take to assist older adults in getting access to the services they need. A repeated theme in the gaps analysis data for the Initiative was the lack of adequate access to health specialists. Mental health services, home health assistance, and dental care were specifically identified as needs for a number of older residents in the region.
