The Eagle County Fairgrounds is located just under a mile west of the Eagle exit off I-70. The fairgrounds is nestled along the beautiful Eagle River on 147 acres, providing a true country setting. For events ranging from a few hours to multi-day programs, the Eagle County Fairgrounds is where you need to be. Our property is available year-round with the exception of July. There are approximately six structures, all of which can be secured. Two buildings are climate-controlled: the Eagle River Center and the Exhibit Hall. Other venues for rent include the livestock barn, Pro Rodeo arena and grandstands, lower grassy fields and the entire fairgrounds complex.
Besides facilities rentals the fairgrounds also provides:
- Public boat access (Outfitters and rafting guides must obtain a permit through Facilities Management, please email facilities@eaglecounty.us to begin the process.)
- Hole in the Sky - disc golf course
- Reserved arena time. Available at the Eagle River Center and Pro Rodeo Arena in 2 - 4 hour time blocks when not booked for events. During this time individuals can rent the desired arena for activities such as horseback riding, team roping, archery, etc.
Eagle County is currently exploring options to improve the fairgrounds property with an updated Master Plan that includes several potential projects. Master Plans are intended to guide future growth and development and are written to meet the needs of the community.
The projects currently being considered are the following:
RV Park
Cost : $3,583,247 - $4,463,882
Description : Develop approximately 100 sites with supportive services for RV / tent camping with the potential for future expansion. This site is intended to accommodate events in a more formal way and allow short term, 7-10 day stays when there are no events.
Advantages :
- Currently, events are using the undeveloped green space for overnight camping.
- There are no permanent, supportive services conveniently located in the nearby area.
- This provides an opportunity to increase revenue from RV rental to offset operating costs.
Cost : $25,214,989 - $30,239,792
Description : Add 40,000 square feet of flat floor, column free space with the flexibility to divide the area for separate smaller uses.
Advantages :
- Increase the capacity to meet the existing demand of users and exhibitors, revenue and the overall Fair & Rodeo experience for 4 H Exhibits.
- This would replace the use of the Eagle River Center (ERC) for multi-purpose events and allow consideration of repurposing the Exhibit Hall currently used for smaller events.
- Currently, the floor in the ERC is now transitioned from dirt to hard surface to accommodate both equine and exhibit type of events. The set up and tear down of the floor is labor intensive and does not meet the demand of both user group types. The user feedback received is that it is hard to schedule use because facilities are booked well in advance.
Cost : $9,856,112 - $11,599,364
Description : Expand existing precast grandstand seating to add 1030 new seats, add covered and elevated seating next to the announcers booth for an additional 200 seats, and expand and cover outdoor arena.
Advantages
- Opportunity to increase attendance, revenue and the overall Fair & Rodeo experience.
- Currently, there are 2,200 seats in the grandstands, with additional bleacher seating in the outdoor arena. With the Fair & Rodeo becoming increasingly more popular, the event has been a near sell out for the past several years and completely sold out of tickets for the past 2 years.
- Covering the warmup arena is in response to user feedback that due to high demand, scheduling time for use of the indoor riding arena is often difficult. During equine clinics or dog shows, the indoor arena is closed to community users. This would be revenue generating and utilized for rentals as well as provide a sheltered space for contestant warm up and practice during events held at the outdoor arena.
The county is working with Populus, a firm that specializes in planning and design for multi-event venues as well as Crossroads Consulting, which conducted a market assessment of the various project options. They assessed the advantages and disadvantages associated with the various options for development, renovation, expansion, and operations of the facilities.
The intention of this project is to develop a strategic Master Plan that is informed through a market assessment with user and public input. Additional requests to the consultants include a phasing plan for future uses with operational considerations and a projected phased timing and budget schedule.
Eagle County has reached out to existing user groups, stakeholders, and the general community for input.
