Getting Started
For most election positions (judges), our office must first hire from names provided by the Eagle County Democratic and Eagle County Republican party chairs (per statute).

Qualifications
Colorado Revised Statute §1-6-101 establishes qualifications for Election Judges. To be an Election Judge, you must be:
  • A United States citizen.
  • Registered to vote in Colorado.
  • Mentally and physically able to perform and complete the assigned tasks. This may include the following requirements (depending on the position):  
    • Lift up to 25 pounds
    • Perform tasks in a busy and stressful environment
    • Sit and/or stand for long periods of time
    • Have basic knowledge of computers
  • Free of any conviction of election fraud, fraud, or any other election offenses.
  • Not a candidate or related to any candidate on the ballot.
  • Able to work all dates and trainings for which you are hired.
  • Arrange your own transportation to and from your work location.
  • Provide your own meals/beverages for your shift.
Roles and Scheduled Hours
Election Judges may perform a wide variety of jobs, including assisting voters in vote centers, transporting ballots, verifying signatures, and processing ballots.  Training is required, and is provided before each election.  Some positions are scheduled one to two weeks for an election; other positions may only require a 2-3 day commitment.  Judges are required to follow very specific directions and abide by legal requirements completely.

Scheduled hours and pay will vary depending on the assigned position.  
Student Election Judges
High school students may be election judges if they are 16 years of age or older and either a junior or senior.  Parental or legal guardian’s consent must be given for a student to serve as an election judge.  Please contact Eagle County Elections office for more details. .
