2010 Tax Lien Sale

The Eagle County Treasurer’s Office will hold its second largest tax lien sale since 1989 on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010 at the county building, located at 500 Broadway in Eagle. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. in the Treasurer’s Office, with the sale to begin promptly at 9 a.m. in the Eagle County Room. There are currently 567 real property accounts with delinquent taxes totaling over $4 million dollars and 26 mobile home accounts with delinquent taxes totaling around $5,000. Any of these delinquent accounts that are not paid as of Oct. 22, 2010 will be offered at the tax lien sale on Oct. 27.

The tax lien sale is the final step in the process of ensuring that taxing entities, such as towns, school districts, fire protection districts and the county, receive their funding. The taxes are purchased by investors who earn interest on the tax liens placed on the property. The interest rate on the investment is set at nine points above the Federal Reserve’s discount rate on Sept. 1 of each year. The interest rate for this year’s sale will be 10 percent.

A tax lien sale seminar will be held for interested investors on Tuesday, Oct. 26 at 5:30 p.m in the Eagle County Room. For additional information please contact the Treasurer’s Office at 970-328-8860.
