Smoke in the Eagle River Valley

Smoke in the Eagle River Valley is coming in from fires to the west.

If smoke is thick or becomes thick in your neighborhood you may want to remain indoors. This is especially true for those with heart disease, respiratory illnesses, the very young, and the elderly.

New multi-county shuttle connects veterans, elderly and disabled residents to health services in Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction

Contact: Chris Lubbers, ECO Transit Executive Director, 970-328-3533,

Dec. 15, 2016 – Through a partnership between Eagle, Garfield, Pitkin and Mesa counties, qualified veteran, disabled and elderly residents now have accessible transportation to services in neighboring counties via the GEM Connector Shuttle Service.

The service connects Eagle, Pitkin and Garfield counties to Mesa County twice per month and drops off at various locations such as Valley View Hospital and VA Clinic in Glenwood Springs, St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, Grand Junction Community Hospital and the Grand Junction Veterans Administration Hospital.

“We are thrilled to close a service gap for our disabled, elderly and veteran residents,” said Chris Lubbers, executive director for ECO Transit. “This multi-agency collaboration included Eagle County, Roaring Fork Transit Authority, Grand Valley Transit, Northwest Colorado Council of Governments and the Colorado Department of Transportation.”

The GEM Connector Shuttle Service will operate year-round on every second and fourth Thursday of the month. It departs the Gypsum Park and Ride in Eagle County at 7:15 a.m. and continues to West Glenwood Park and Ride, then to Rifle and New Castle as needed with the final stops in Mesa County. Pitkin County residents are able to access the GEM Connector through VelociRFTA or the RFTA paratransit services.

To qualify and schedule a ride on the GEM Connector Shuttle Service, residents must contact their local transit agency or county veterans service officer. Eligibility determination could take up to five days.
