First section of Eagle to Horn Ranch Trail to open Nov. 22

Contact: Kevin Sharkey, ECO Trails Program Manager, 970-328-3523,

Nov. 20, 2017 – The first three miles of the Eagle to Horn Ranch segment of the Eagle Valley Trail will open to the public on Wednesday, Nov. 22. This is the first phase of the trail project connecting the Town of Eagle to Eagle County’s Horn Ranch Open Space property.

Access to the new section is from the existing paved trail east from Nogal Road in Eagle, then right on the new trail after crossing under the railroad tracks. There is public parking on Nogal Road.

The Eagle to Horn Ranch Trail is currently an “out and back” dead end. Trail construction will resume in the spring of 2018 and continue until November 2018. Once complete, the public will be able to access the trail at the Horn Ranch Open Space from U.S. Highway 6.

Total cost of the project is $7 million, with $2 million coming from a Great Outdoors Colorado grant award. Additional funding includes $200,000 from the Town of Eagle and $4.8 million from Eagle County’s ECO Trails, ECO Transit, Open Space and Capital Improvement funds.

The Eagle to Horn Ranch Trail will complete a 6.5 mile section of the planned 63 mile-long Eagle Valley Trail that will connect all of the communities of the Eagle River and Gore Creek valleys from Vail Pass to Glenwood Canyon.

To date, 44.5 miles of the trail is complete. For more information, contact ECO Trails Program Manager Kevin Sharkey at 970-328-3523 or at
