Eagle County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Mike McWilliam graduated from the FBI National Academy on December 10, 2010.   The FBI National Academy program, held at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia, offers 11 weeks of advanced investigative, management, leadership, and fitness training for selected senior law enforcement officers having proven records as professionals within their agencies.

Two hundred sixty five law enforcement officers graduated from this 243rd Session of the National Academy.   Included in this class were men and women from all 50 states, 22 international countries, four military and seven federal civilian organizations.

Training for the program is provided by FBI Academy instructional staff, Special Agents, and other staff holding advanced degrees.  Since 1972, National Academy students have been able to earn undergraduate and graduate credits from the University of Virginia.  A total of 44,280 students have graduated from the FBI National Academy since it began in July of 1935.   The FBI pays for all of the student training, dormitory, meals, and transportation to and from Virginia.

Lt. McWilliam has been with the Sheriff’s Office for 23 years and is currently assigned as the commander of the Detective Division.  Sheriff Joseph Hoy congratulates Mike for his hard work and dedication and is pleased that Mike can put this advanced training to work making Eagle County a safer place for residents and guests.
