Road plowing schedule

Contact: Gordon Adams, Assistant Director, 970-328-3540

Dec. 2, 2009 - Eagle County Road and Bridge is responsible for snow removal on approximately 260 miles of roadway, ranging from El Jebel and Basalt to the south, McCoy to the north, Vail to the east and Dotsero to the west, including Edwards and Eagle-Vail. County plows do not maintain I-70, Hwy 6, or their frontage roads. Citizens are reminded of the following snow removal guidelines:

  • Snow removal crews begin working in the very early morning, typically around 4 a.m., and continue
until all routes are complete. Crews are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Main roads are plowed first, which include school bus and emergency routes. Side streets, including
residential collector streets and lesser traveled streets such as cul-de-sacs are plowed next. It may be
later in the day before these roads are plowed.
  • Be patient with the snow removal process and drive with caution around any equipment.
  • Educate children about the dangers of playing near snowplows and to not dig snow forts or caves in snow banks.
  • Wear reflective clothing if you are jogging or walking along a road in darkness.
  • Wait to shovel driveways until after snowplows have passed. It is illegal to put snow or any other debris in the roadway.
  • It is illegal to park on county-maintained roads or in the county right-of-way, which typically extends approximately 10 feet off of the edge of the road. The right-of-way is intended to be utilized for snow storage, so it is not recommended that valuable landscaping be placed within this area.
