April 17, 2015 - Eagle County Public Health and Environment will present Walking Mountains Science Center with the 2015 Eagle County Public Health and Environment Champion Award during the Board of County Commissioners meeting April 21 at 2 p.m. Walking Mountains is being recognized for their partnership and contributions to the Energy Smart Colorado Program and other Public Health initiatives. Each year, a partnering agency is given the award for their efforts to put Public Health into practice. Last year's recipient was Eagle County Schools, in recognition of the Fresh Approach and Universal Breakfast programs.

According to Eagle County Environmental Policy Planner Adam Palmer, the partnership with Walking Mountains Science Center on the Energy Smart Colorado Program has been instrumental in the success of the programs. "The committed investment of Walking Mountains Science Center to staff leadership and healthy community design skills are already showing to be beneficial to the community," said Palmer.

In addition to their work on Energy Smart Colorado, Walking Mountains has invested in staff time and expertise to two other Eagle County initiatives, the Healthy Communities Coalition and the Regional Institute for Health and Environmental Leadership Community Design team. Walking Mountains staff member, Melissa Kirr, lead a Healthy Communities Coalition work group to create a map of food producers within a 100 mile-radius of the Town of Eagle. Also, staff member, John-Ryan, is participating in a Leadership for Healthy Community Design Program, alongside Eagle County Public Health and Planning staff.
