Traffic counts underway in Eagle-Vail

Contact, Scot Hunn, Planner, 970-328-8624 or

Eagle County’s Engineering Department has begun collecting traffic count information on Highway 6 in Eagle-Vail. The work is anticipated to take approximately two weeks and is being conducted as part of the Eagle-Vail commercial area master planning process. Data collected through traffic counts will be analyzed by the traffic engineering firm of Kimley Horne and Associates, who will help define current and projected volumes as well as make recommendations on how the road might be modified to be more pedestrian- and retail-friendly.

The county is working with the Eagle-Vail Metropolitan District and local stakeholders, with assistance from Mauriello Planning Group (MPG), to establish a master plan for the commercial area, also known as the Eagle-Vail Business District. The purpose of the project is to establish a long term vision for the area as a means of directing and coordinating any future redevelopment, growth or beautification efforts. Development of the business district dates to the early 1970s.

Once an inventory of existing conditions within the master planning area is complete, the project team will compile a preliminary analysis of the information. Updates will be posted to the county’s website at For more information, contact Eagle County Planner Scot Hunn at 970-328-8624.
