March 20, 2014 – The second in a series of public meetings to discuss an update to the Edwards Area Community Plan is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. March 27 at Battle Mountain High School. The new plan, which will replace the existing 2003 Edwards Master Plan, will be used to guide land use and infrastructure decisions in the unincorporated Edwards area for the next 10 to 15 years. All interested community members are encouraged to attend.

The meeting will begin with a presentation that will recap the planning process to date and will include a summary of the results from the Edwards Community Survey, which was conducted last fall. The survey and related documents are available for review at

The presentation will be followed by a session designed to allow attendees to provide input regarding community character, the organizational approach to the new plan, public funding options and the development of a “community vision” for the Edwards area. County officials, professional planners and service providers from Edwards will be on hand to lead discussions and answer questions. “This second meeting will be an opportunity to refine our understanding of community issues and the desires of Edwards’ residents and stakeholders,” said Eagle County Senior Planner Cliff Simonton.

Thursday’s meeting will also include an opportunity for those interested in serving on a Citizens Advisory Committee to sign up to participate. The committee will be tasked with helping staff to write a preliminary draft of the new plan over the next six to eight months.

The Edwards Area Community Plan project is a collaborative effort between Eagle County and the Edwards Community Authority, with assistance from local planning firm Braun Associates, Inc. For more information, contact Simonton at 970-328-8751 or at
