Adoption of Mid Valley Area Community Plan scheduled for April 4

The Roaring Fork Valley Regional Planning Commission will consider final adoption of the Mid Valley Area Community Plan during its regular meeting on April 4. The meeting begins at 2:30 p.m. in the Mount Sopris Room of the El Jebel Community Center, located at 0020 Eagle County Drive in El Jebel. All interested community members are encouraged to attend.

The Mid Valley includes the Frying Pan and Roaring Fork drainages in the southwestern corner of Eagle County. Four separate character areas were identified through the planning process: the Highway 82 Corridor Area, the Emma Area, the Frying Pan Area and the Missouri Heights Area. As proposed, the updated Mid Valley Area Community Plan provides separate chapters outlining individual goals, policies and strategies for each area. The plan is available for review at

The Eagle County Planning Department has been working to update the plan since 2009 with input collected from residents, local governments, service providers and others. The first full draft of the updated plan was completed in early 2012 and was presented during a community open house last June. Comments from that meeting resulted in a number of adjustments by the planning commission.

The Mid Valley plan was subsequently sent to over 45 different entities with a request for additional comments. The referral period ended in September 2012 and seven separate public adoption hearings have been held since. The commission completed its review of the document on Feb. 7.
