Eagle River Preserve reopens to vehicle access

Contact: Toby Sprunk Open Space Director at 970-328-8698 or toby.sprunk@eaglecounty.us.

May 12, 2014 – The Eagle River Preserve is now open to vehicles daily from dawn to dusk, following a winter closure to protect wildlife habitat. The property remains open for recreational and pedestrian use and a new parking area has been constructed at the top of the U.S. Hwy 6 entrance, outside of the gate.

County officials are offering a few reminders to ensure enjoyment of the property by all users:

  • Stay on established paths. The vegetation is still young and developing. Be especially mindful of sensitive vegetation along the riverbank.
  • Dogs should be kept on a leash, except within the designated off-leash dog area. Dogs are not permitted in the pond.
  • Pack out personal trash and any litter found. Trash containers are provided at the parking area.
  • Review posted signs and rules.

The 72-acre Eagle River Preserve was acquired in 2005 through a partnership between Eagle County Open Space and Vail Valley Foundation. The Eagle River Preserve is permanently protected by a conservation easement held by the EVLT.

The property is open to hiking, fishing and biking and includes a walking trail, benches, an off-leash dog area and access to the Eagle River. For more information, visit www.eaglecounty.us/openspace.
