Eagle County Open Space breaking ground on new trailhead at the Brush Creek Valley Ranch and Open Space

Contact: Katherine King, Open Space Director, katherine.king@eaglecounty.us, 970-328-8697

June 17, 2020 - Beginning on Thurs., June 18 contractors will begin work on a new trailhead and parking lot that will facilitate public access to the Brush Creek Valley Ranch and Open Space. A bridge across Brush Creek is being delivered in early July and will direct hikers, bikers, and equestrian users to the planned recreation and education area, as well as to future multi-use trails.

During this construction period and until otherwise noted, public access is still restricted to the Salt Creek Area of Brush Creek Valley Ranch and Open Space and all users are reminded that there is an active agricultural operation on portions of the property and to obey all posted signage.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming more visitors onto our flagship Open Space later this summer and the trailhead and bridge are the first step towards making that a reality,” says Open Space Director Katherine King.

Originally purchased in 2017 by The Conservation Fund and conveyed to Eagle County, the 1,540-acre property is the culmination of a multi-decade conservation project with numerous supporters and project partners. A conservation easement was granted to the Eagle Valley Land Trust, ensuring that the property’s agricultural, recreational, natural resources and scenic attributes are forever conserved.

The transfer and permanent preservation of the ranch was the result of partnerships that spanned from local residents, the Town of Eagle, Eagle Ranch and the Eagle Valley Land Trust to The Conservation Fund and Great Outdoors Colorado.

Great Outdoors Colorado provided a $3.1 million grant from its Protect Initiative, aimed at funding urgent, once-in-a-lifetime land conservation projects that result in increased access and visibility for the public.
