Eagle County celebrates Week of the Young Child

Contact: Maggie Swonger, BrightStart Coordinator, 970-328-2609

Eagle County joins BrightStart Early Childhood Council in celebrating the Week of the Young Child, April 18-25. BrightStart will celebrate the week by honoring young children and individuals who make a difference in children’s lives.

“All young children need and deserve high-quality early learning experiences that will prepare them for life; Eagle County has a great opportunity to do our part to help young children,” said Maggie Swonger, BrightStart Early Childhood Council Coordinator. “Week of the Young Child is time for our county to recognize that early years are learning years for all young children.”

Week of the Young Child, sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), is an opportunity for early childhood programs across the country, including child care, Head Start programs, preschools and elementary schools, to host activities that bring awareness to the needs of young children. In Eagle County, parades will take place on Thursday, April 22 at 11 a.m. In Eagle, the parade will be on Broadway St. In Vail, parades will take place at Buffehr Creek and Pirateship Parks. Call 970-328-2609 for more information about parades in Avon and Edwards.

BrightStart is a council comprised of local early childhood professionals who work together to improve professional practice and working conditions in early childhood education. The council also builds public support for high-quality early childhood education programs. BrightStart is an affiliate of NAEYC, the largest organization of early childhood educators and others dedicated to improving the quality of early education programs for children birth through age eight.
