County recognizing Child Abuse Prevention Month

Contact: Toni Rozanski Director of Child, Family and Adult Services at 970-328-8852 or

Eagle County is inviting community members to join the Child, Family and Adult Services Team and child welfare agencies across the United States in recognizing April as National Child Abuse Prevention month. On April 22, volunteers and staff members placed pinwheels at the Eagle campus courtyard to represent the number of child abuse and neglect investigations completed in 2012 in Eagle County.

All individuals and organizations are encouraged to play a role in making local communities a better place for children and families. “April is a time to celebrate the important role that communities play in protecting children,” said Toni Rozanski, Eagle County’s Director of Child, Family and Adult Services. “Everyone’s participation is critical. Supporting parent-child nurturing and attachment, promoting parenting skills and knowledge of child and youth development, and giving concrete assistance to parents are the best things our community can do to prevent child mistreatment and promote child development,” she said.

According to Rozanski, the pinwheel was adopted by the Prevent Child Abuse America organization to represent the bright futures that all children deserve and serves as the symbol for child abuse and neglect prevention nationwide. The organization focuses on community activities and public policies that prioritize prevention to ensure child abuse never occurs.

Eagle County has implemented new hotlines for reporting abuse or neglect of children and adults in the community. The hotlines are staffed by trained caseworkers 24 hours a day. For Eagle Valley residents, the number is 970-328-7720. Residents in the Roaring Fork side of the county can call 970-429-2040.
