The Eagle County Commissioners are inviting the community to hear the results of several focus groups that convened earlier this year regarding the proposed Continuum of Care Retirement Community (CCRC). The presentation will take place at 10 a.m. March 29 in the Eagle County Room, located at 500 Broadway in Eagle. The session will also be aired live on ecotv18, the county's cable TV station, as well as streamed live and archived at www.ecotv18.com.

The county has contracted with Augustana Care Corporation to research the demand for and financial feasibility of the project, as well as to operate the facility. During January's focus groups, participants weighed in on a number of potential CCRC options, including apartment amenities, costs, levels of care and building design. It was noted that extensive community fundraising would be an essential part of making the project possible.

A CCRC is a residential community for older adults, offering a range of health care and social support to all levels of seniors, from those physical and mentally healthy and active, to those needing 24-hour nursing and/or memory care. According to Eagle County Housing Director Jill Klosterman, there were an estimated 879 individuals 75 years and older in Eagle County in 2010. During the next decade, the number is projected to grow to 2,411 individuals. “Currently, older Eagle County adults must leave the area if they need in-home medical care,” said Klosterman. “There are no residential communities providing such services between the Front Range and Glenwood Springs, which leaves our seniors and their families faced with difficult decisions when continuing care is needed.”

In addition to the focus group sessions, the CCRC team has been exploring potential site plans and layouts with Nelson-Tremain Partnership and Snowdon & Hopkins Architects, the team selected to design the facility. The proposed site is located on approximately 10 acres of county-owned property in the Town of Eagle, including the former USFS horse pasture and the county’s former Road & Bridge parcel.
