Dec. 2, 2016 – The Eagle County Board of Commissioners will review the county’s proposed 2017 budget beginning at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 6. The meeting will take place in the Eagle County Room, located at 500 Broadway in Eagle. All interested community members are encouraged to attend. Tuesday’s presentation will also be aired live on channel 18 on the Eagle Valley’s two cable systems, as well as streamed live and archived for later viewing at

As proposed, General Fund operating expenditures will be approximately $40.3 million in 2017, representing a 5.2 percent decrease from 2016 expenses. The General Fund is carrying a fund balance of approximately $25 million; the Board of Commissioners has set a General Fund reserve minimum of $13 million for 2017.

Across all funds, proposed expenses are budgeted at $113.7 million, down from $142.1 million in 2016. The decrease is primarily due to the completion of projects and subsequent reductions in capital expenditures in several funds including Road & Bridge, Airport, Capital Improvement Fund and Open Space.

The 2017 budget was developed in support of the county’s strategic plan, which includes five overarching goals: Eagle County is Financially Sound, Eagle County is a Great Place to Live for All, Eagle County Protects the Natural Environment, Eagle County Promotes a Diverse and Resilient Economy, and Eagle County is a High-Performing Organization.

Final adoption of the budget and the county’s mill levy is scheduled for Dec. 13, with certification of mill levies for all taxing entities set for Dec. 20. For more information, contact Eagle County Finance Director John Lewis at 970-328-3511.
