Dec. 11, 2013 – The Eagle County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the county’s 2014 budget on Dec. 10 following an in-depth public presentation in November. As approved, the General Fund operating budget will be approximately $34.7 million in 2014, representing a $2.5 million increase from 2013’s final budgeted expenditures. Across all funds, expenditures are budgeted at about $100 million next year, down from $122.2 million in 2013.

2014 will mark the first year-over-year increase in General Fund spending since 2009, when expenditures were $41.9 million. Over the same period, General Fund reserves have grown from $15.4 million to $22.6 million. The increase in expenditures coincides with slowly recovering revenues and the county’s strong reserves, and represents investments toward the commissioners’ strategic priorities including Quality Services, Social Investment, Economic Vitality, Sustainable Communities and Environmental Stewardship.

During Tuesday’s meeting, the commissioners also approved a total combined mill levy of 8.499 for 2014, an amount which has remained unchanged since 2004. The board will certify mill levies for other taxing districts in the county on Dec. 20.
