Eagle County Fairgrounds closed to equine activities

Contact: Tom Johnson, Public Works, 970-328-8882

The Eagle County Fairgrounds are closed to all equine activities effectively immediately due to confirmed cases of the EHV-1 virus in horses in Colorado. While there is no estimated date of reopening to horses, other activities at the fairgrounds are continuing as scheduled.

Horses that may have been exposed to EVH-1 have been quarantined in Bent, Boulder, Garfield, Gunnison, Larimer, Mesa, Morgan, and Weld counties, and facilities across the state are restricting equine events.
All equine users with reservations at the Eagle County Fairgrounds have been contacted. County staff is monitoring the situation closely through the Colorado Department of Agriculture and will update fairgrounds status when appropriate.

The virus affects the neurological systems of horses. Symptoms and additional information can be found at http://www.aphis.usda.gov/vs/nahss/equine/ehv/equine_herpesvirus_brochure_2009.pdf
