Contact: Ron Siebert, Project Manager, 970-328-8881

The Eagle River Preserve (ERP) is now open daily from dawn to dusk for the summer season.

County officials would like to offer a few reminders for enjoying the preserve

  • Please stay on established paths. The vegetation is still young and developing. Be especially mindful of sensitive vegetation along the river bank.
  • Dogs should be kept on a leash, except when in the designated dog area.
  • Pack out personal and other trash you may encounter and place in one of the provided containers.
  • Review posted signs and rules.

Eagle River Preserve was a former gravel pit that was purchased in 2005 to create a park of approximately 72 acres west of downtown Edwards. The park is visible from I‐70 and will allow for complete public access upon completion of the restoration. Phase one is complete and includes a walking trail, some wooden benches scattered along the river, a fenced area for dogs to run, access to the Eagle River for fishermen and a small pond. The second phase of the project will include construction of an interpretive center with some classroom space and information about the preserve. The total purchase price of the conservation easement was $12 million, with $6 million provided by the Vail Valley Foundation, GOCO and private donors. The other $6 million was provided by Eagle County with $3.9 million coming from the Open Space Fund and the other $2.1 million coming from the General Fund. The conservation easement is held by the Eagle Valley Land Trust.
