Prepare your septic system for winter

Contact: Terri Vroman, Environmental Health, 970-328-8755 or terri.vroman@eaglecounty.us

Before fall and winter set in, the Environmental Health Department recommends homes served by private wastewater (septic) systems have the septic tank pumped by one of our licensed systems cleaners.  Septic systems that are ignored can lead to costly repairs and serious health problems for you and your family.

Septic tanks should be pumped every three to five years and chemical additives should never be used.

It is also important to make sure plumbing fixtures remain tight with no hissing toilets or dripping faucets that could cause your drainfield to become overloaded and fail.

If you are not sure where your septic tank is located, feel free to contact our office via email with the physical address of the system, your name and email address and we will do our best to help you.  We will also be happy to retain the pumping records for you.
