County to host Tesla test drive event

Contact: John Gitchell, Environmental Sustainability Coordinator, at 970-328-8766 or john.gitchell@eaglecounty.us

July 16, 2015 – To help build awareness around new electric vehicle technologies, Eagle County will host a test drive event from noon to 4 p.m. July 20. Tesla Motors will be at the Eagle County Building at 500 Broadway in Eagle to offer test drives of their Model S 85D and P 85D. Both vehicles have a range of over 240 miles and feature all-wheel drive. Test drive appointments can be reserved at http://my.teslamotors.com/event/driving-redefined-experience-model-s-eagle-county-government.

The county recently purchased its first electric fleet vehicle, a 2015 Chevy Volt. Last fall, the county installed an electric vehicle charging station on the west side of the Eagle County Building. The station is available free to the public on a first-come, first-served basis and is intended to encourage the use of alternative fuel vehicles along the I-70 and U.S. Hwy 6 corridors. Additional public charging stations in the county can be found on www.plugshare.com.

In 2013, Eagle County adopted an Actively Green environmental policy and a goal to reduce fuel use and cost from county operations 15 percent by the end of 2015 as compared to 2012. To meet the goal, the county is improving buildings, investing in renewable energy and purchasing clean and efficient electric vehicles.
