April 15, 2016 – Earth Day is April 22 and Eagle County will celebrate with a variety of events taking place throughout the week.

On April 19, the Eagle County Board of Commissioners will adopt a resolution designating the week of April 17 - 23 as “Earth Awareness Week” during their regular Tuesday meeting. The board will also consider adoption of the county’s updated environmental policy statement. The meeting begins at 10 a.m.

Then at 4 p.m., the commissioners will recognize fourth grade artists from 11 schools within the county who participated in the annual Earth Day Poster Contest. The theme this year is “Actively Green for Climate Change.” The top three posters from each school will be recognized during the presentation. The overall first place poster will be framed and displayed along with the 25 winning posters from past years on the second floor of the Eagle County Building.

In support of Earth Awareness Week, ECO Transit will offer 15 percent off of 30-day and 10-ride passes from April 17 - 23. Eligible passes are available for purchase at the Maintenance Service Center in Gypsum or the Vail Transportation Center in Vail. Some restrictions apply. For details, visit www.eaglecounty.us/transit or call 970-328-3520.

Additionally, Walking Mountains Science Center will host a recycling event on Friday, April 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Colorado Mountain College in Edwards. For additional information such as acceptable materials and fees, visit www.walkingmountains.org
