Ribbon cutting ceremony for Burns, Catamount bridges

Contact: Rickie Davies, Senior Staff Engineer, or 970-328-3567

Aug. 26, 2016 - Eagle County community members are invited to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony for both the Burns and Catamount bridges on Monday. The ceremony is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Aug. 29 at the Catamount Bridge on Colorado River Road. The majority of the ceremony will take place in the parking lot adjacent to the bridge.

Both bridges are located approximately 25 miles northeast of Dotsero on the Colorado River Road. Due to construction taking place at the Red Dirt Bridge, those attending the ribbon cutting should plan on taking Highway 131 from Wolcott to the Catamount Bridge. The Red Dirt Bridge will be closed Monday, so I-70 through Dotsero to the Colorado River Road is not a viable option.

Construction on the two bridges began in September of 2015. Demolition of the old bridges is scheduled to be complete by Sept. 16. Cost of the project was $2.8 million for the Burns Bridge and $2.9 for the Catamount Bridge, with 80 percent of the funding coming from federal grants.
