Dec. 6, 2013 - Transportation planners throughout Eagle County are encouraging local residents to take part in an online survey to rank the importance of regional investment priorities on state highways and to offer suggestions for future initiatives. The survey is sponsored by the Colorado Department of Transportation as it prepares its 2040 statewide transportation plan.

The survey is available at with responses due before Dec. 15. A Spanish version is also available.

Initial planning efforts by local county and municipal leaders in coordination with CDOT staff in the Intermountain Transportation Planning Region have identified four possible future initiatives. They include improvements along the Interstate 70 corridor, including interchanges, Vail Pass climbing lanes and ramp improvements in Dowd Junction. Also on the list are capacity improvements along Highway 82 near Glenwood Springs, improvements on Highway 9 at Iron Springs and passing lanes on U.S. 24 from Minturn to Leadville.

The survey asks respondents to evaluate the regional priorities and to identify other needs that may be missing from the list, such as transit, bike and pedestrian improvements or other safety initiatives.

The website also provides information on local planning processes, upcoming meetings and other resources to help community members actively participate in shaping the statewide transportation plan.
