Emergency Operations Center construction begins

Contact: Barry Smith, Emergency Management Director, 970-328-3545 or barry.smith@eaglecounty.us

Construction continues on the new Eagle County Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Walls are up, and the raised computer flooring is scheduled for installation soon. This phase of the project is due for completion by Sept. 30 and will give emergency responders a room to conduct local support and coordination functions.  Future phases of the project will involve adding equipment to enhance information and data sharing.

An EOC is responsible for the strategic overview or "big picture" of emergency situations. The common functions of the EOC are to collect, gather and analyze data; make decisions that protect life and property; maintain continuity of the organization within the scope of applicable laws; and disseminate those decisions to all concerned agencies and individuals.

This facility will do double duty as the county’s computer training room.

Funding for this project comes from a FEMA Emergency Management Program Grant with a 50 percent county match.
