County recognizes National Preparedness Month

Contact: Barry Smith, Emergency Management Director, 970-328-3545 or barry.smith@eaglecounty.us

Sept. 2, 2016 - September is recognized as National Preparedness Month (NPM) which serves as a reminder that we all must take action to prepare, now and throughout the year, for the types of emergencies that could affect us where we live, work, and also where we visit. Due to the success of last year’s theme, “Don’t Wait, Communicate. Make Your Emergency Plan Today,” will be returning for this September with a continuing emphasis on preparedness for youth, older adults, and people with disabilities and others with access and functional needs.  Thank you for taking time help make America more prepared for emergencies.

Each week in the Month of September Eagle County Emergency Management will be sharing information on Emergency Preparedness and will conclude the month with a Community Safety Fair on Oct. 1 at Avon Elementary School.

The first step in emergency preparation is understanding the hazards that you might encounter where you live, work and play. The Eagle County Emergency Management webpage has information on local hazards at www.eaglecounty.us/Emergency/Emergency_Preparedness.

Ready.Gov provide helpful information in preparing your personal plans for emergency situations. This week we encourage everyone to create an Emergency Communications Plan. Tools to help you with this plan can be found at https://www.ready.gov/make-a-plan.
