The duty of the elected coroner is to conduct comprehensive investigations of all unattended deaths in the county. The coroner complies with statutory reporting requirements by establishing manner of death, providing scene investigation and identification of the deceased, notification of next of kin and death certificate preparation.

The Eagle County Coroner is a certified death investigator with the Colorado Coroner’s Association and a nationally certified medical investigator, level 3. There are also up to six deputy coroners serving the county at any given time. Please be aware that death certificates and autopsy reports can take 90 days or more to obtain depending on the circumstances surrounding death.
