December 16, 2010 – 4:30 p.m. – Search and rescue personnel have successfully recovered the bodies of two victims from yesterday’s plane crash just north of Edwards. The identities of the pilot and passenger will not be released until confirmed by Eagle County Coroner Kara Bettis, which could take several days.

The aircraft involved is a Beech 60 Duke registered to Barton Harris of Brownwood, Texas. The plane lost radar contact while on final approach into Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE) at approximately 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. The wreckage was spotted by a National Guard helicopter early Thursday morning, following overnight search and rescue efforts. The crash site is located about 3.5 miles north of Edwards at an elevation of about 10,800 feet.

An investigation and a determination as to cause of the crash now fall to the National Transportation Safety Board.

Agencies assisting during the incident include Eagle County Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting, Eagle County Ambulance District, Eagle County Coroner’s Office, Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, Eagle River Fire Protection District, High-Altitude Army National Guard Training Site, Garfield Search and Rescue, Greater Eagle Fire Protection District, Salvation Army – Emergency Cantina, Summit County Search and Rescue, Vail Mountain Rescue, Vail Police Department and Western Eagle County Search and Rescue.
