Eagle County joins the National Association of Counties (NACo) in celebrating April as National County Government Month (NCGM). Throughout the month, essential county services and programs will be highlighted. The theme of this year’s NCGM is “Healthy Counties Healthy Families.”

“This month-long celebration is the perfect opportunity for citizens to see all of the ways local government strives to improve the health and wellbeing of its citizens and the county as a whole,” said Commissioner Peter Runyon. “With the rising cost of Health care in America, we encourage all people to learn about and take advantage of the critical services we provide.”

A variety of activities will be hosted throughout April and all citizens are encouraged to participate. Events include an essay contest for high school students; presentations by Eagle County Public Health and CSU Extension; parade celebrations honoring Week of the Young Child; and a 5k fun run/walk, breakfast and provider fair. A complete list of activities and events is included on the NCGM calendar.

“Healthy communities start with good land use decisions and public infrastructure. I am proud of the county’s part in maintaining our high quality of life here, both in our built environment and our relationship to our outstanding natural features,” said Commissioner Jon Stavney.

“We are very proud of the essential services and programs our county provides each day and especially the people who deliver them,” said Commissioner Sara Fisher.
“National County Government Month is a great opportunity to recognize how vital Eagle county’s services are to developing and maintaining healthy communities.”

Since 1991, NACo has encouraged counties across the country to raise public awareness and understanding about the roles and responsibilities of counties.
