Eagle County joins the National Association of Counties (NACo) in celebrating April as National County Government Month. Throughout the month, essential county services and programs will be highlighted. This year’s theme is “Safe Justice: Creating Safer Communities.”

“We are very proud of the essential services and programs our county provides each day and especially of the people who deliver them,” said Commissioner Jon Stavney. “National County Government Month is a great opportunity for the public to take a closer look at our services and foster a greater understanding of the role and responsibility of county government.”

A variety of activities will be hosted throughout April and all citizens are encouraged to participate. Events include an essay contest for high school students, presentations by Eagle County Sheriff’s Office and CSU Extension, and the annual Earth Day poster contest. A complete list of activities and events can be viewed at www.eaglecounty.us.

“A safe community demonstrates good practices in public safety, public health, environmental health, safety in transportation, valley-wide relationships and so much more,” said Commissioner Sara Fisher. “National County Government Month is a great opportunity to recognize how vital our services as well as our partners’ services are to developing and maintaining safe communities.”

“This month-long celebration is the perfect opportunity for the county to demonstrate services that residents may not know about,” said Commissioner Jill Ryan. "For example, our GIS Department makes neighborhood maps for police, ambulance and fire departments so they can find people's homes in cases of emergency."

Since 1991, NACo has encouraged counties across the country to raise public awareness and understanding about the roles and responsibilities of counties. Contact Megan Ehrenberg at megan.ehrenberg@eaglecounty.us or 970-328-8601 with questions about National County Government Month.
