Jan. 6, 2014 — Members of the Vail Town Council and Eagle County Commissioners are inviting skiers and riders to join them for some runs on Vail Mountain Friday, Jan. 10. The gathering is intended to find out what’s on people’s minds beyond the confines of a traditional public meeting. Participants are asked to gather at the base of Gondola One in Vail Village at 10 a.m. Friday.

Organized by Councilman Greg Moffet and Commissioner Kathy Chandler-Henry, the outing is a way to connect elected officials with people who are passionate about the outdoors. “This is the kind of networking that will undoubtedly serve as an inspiration and an important link for all of us,” says Moffet, who noted the success of previous ski days with the Vail Town Council that were organized in the 1990s. “Skiing and riding Vail Mountain is a huge part of what we’re all about as a community, so I can’t think of a better way for us to connect and re-connect with friends and constituents,” he added.

Chandler-Henry agrees, “We look forward to a joint Town and County event, and to sharing ideas with residents against the backdrop of one of the world's greatest ski areas.”

No RSVPs are needed to take part in the upcoming ski and ride day. Participants simply need to meet at the base and assume responsibility for their own equipment, lift ticket and lunch. An intermediate ability level is advised.

Moffet says he’s hoping the outdoor outreach initiative will be expanded to other outings year-round.
