County to consider extension of zoning moratorium in Roaring Fork Valley

Contact: Beth Oliver, Deputy County Attorney, 970-328-8685,

April 13, 2018 – On Tuesday, the Eagle County Board of Commissioners will consider a resolution extending a temporary moratorium on zone change applications within the unincorporated areas of the county in the Roaring Fork Valley. The hearing will take place during their regular meeting, which begins at 10 a.m. April 17 at the Eagle County Building, located at 500 Broadway in Eagle. The topic is listed as the fourth business item on the agenda. The resolution is available for review at

As proposed, the temporary moratorium would be extended up to two months from its scheduled expiration on April 23. It would be extinguished either by June 22 or until such time as the Roaring Fork Valley Regional Planning Commission completes its evaluation of the Mid-Valley Area Community Master Plan, whichever is earlier. The moratorium applies to zone change applications for properties comprised of 5 acres or more that fall within the boundaries of the master plan.

The extension would allow time for the planning commission to finalize its review and adopt any proposed amendments to the plan, which guides land use decisions in the unincorporated areas of Eagle County within the Roaring Fork Valley. Information on the master plan review process is available at
