The Eagle County Board of Commissioners today (9/7) announced their intent to pursue negotiations with Augustana Care Corp. to partner with the county on its continuum of care retirement community (CCRC) project. The process to select a partner has been underway since last spring.

Augustana is a Minnesota-based nonprofit that owns and/or manages programs and services ranging from independent and assisted living housing, to home care and adult day care agencies, to skilled nursing and memory care facilities. The selection follows a process which included a community roundtable; issuance of a Request for Proposals resulting in 11 responses; all-day interviews of four finalists by a 25-member citizen panel; and visits by selection committee members to facilities run by three of the entities.

“We had the privilege of interviewing four outstanding retirement community providers, any one of which would have been a great partner,” said Commissioner Sara Fisher. “At the end of the day, we decided Augustana would be the best fit for Eagle County.”

“Bringing a range of care for seniors that currently doesn’t exist in our valley serves to strengthen our community,” said Commissioner Jon Stavney. “I was able to visit eight different facilities run by Augustana and was thoroughly impressed by the caliber of their operation,” he said.

“We want our older community members to be able to ‘age in place’ if they so desire,” said Commissioner Peter Runyon. “This partnership is a step in the right direction in getting the CCRC project off the ground.”

The proposed site encompasses approximately 10 acres of county-owned property within the Town of Eagle, including the U.S. Forest Service “Horse Pasture” parcel and the county’s former Road & Bridge facility. Once an agreement with Augustana is in place, next steps will include working with the Town of Eagle and interested community members to develop plans for the property.
