Commissioners to consider contract to purchase Homestead open space

The Eagle County Board of Commissioners will consider approval of a contract to purchase approximately 160 acres south of U.S. Hwy. 6 in Edwards at its regular meeting on March 8. The contract is for $3.25 million and provides a condition for obtaining a recommendation from the Open Space Advisory Committee for funding through the county’s dedicated Open Space Fund, as well as fundraising by the Eagle Valley Land Trust.

The parcel is a portion of the Scudder/Webster Ranch and is located between the Homestead and Creamery Ranch subdivisions. According to Commissioner Peter Runyon, who helped facilitate the deal, the parcel has been sought as an addition to the county’s open space portfolio for many years. “The Scudder/Webster land will be a wonderful asset both to the neighborhood and the county as a whole and will include public access to this beautiful area,” said Runyon. “We will be looking to garner community support for purchase of this special piece of property,” he said.
