Dec. 21, 2016 – In response to pre- and post-election rhetoric, the Eagle County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution in support of all community members during their regular meeting on Dec. 20.

In approving the resolution, the commissioners expressed their concern for residents experiencing feelings of uncertainty and anxiety. “In particular, we want our non-native residents to know we acknowledge your feelings are real,” said the commissioners. “We are committed to standing together, and ensuring we are a community that is open and welcoming to everyone.”

The approved resolution reads as follows:

WHEREAS, Eagle County’s mission is “Creating a Better Eagle County for All;” and

WHEREAS, it is a goal in the county’s strategic plan that Eagle County be a great place to live for all, with a supporting objective that Eagle County become a more inclusive county welcoming to all; and

WHERAS, Eagle County recognizes the clear contributions residents of all backgrounds make to our community, to our culture and to our economy; and

WHEREAS, there is fear and uncertainty in the post-2016 election climate, leading to increased reports of discrimination and harassment of non-native residents; and

WHEREAS, Eagle County condemns hate crimes, hate speech, and all forms of intimidation against anyone.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
