November 1, 2011 Election

Contact: Teak Simonton, Clerk & Recorder, 970-328-8715 or

This year’s county coordinated election will take place on Nov. 1. All three school districts located within Eagle County, plus Colorado Mountain College, Town of Eagle, Town of Avon, Eagle River Fire Protection District and the Fifth Judicial District will have questions or candidate races on the ballot. There will also be a state question related to pre-school through 12th grade education funding. We expect the ballot to be one page long. New this year, we invite you to follow us on Twitter at ECClerk where we will be posting voter updates and deadlines, as well as election results.

The 2011 election, as has become customary in odd years, will be a mail ballot election, and ballots will be mailed to active voters in mid-October. As always, registered voters will have the option of visiting any clerk’s office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays beginning Oct. 11 through 7 p.m. on Election Day to vote electronically or pick up a ballot.

Ballots cannot be forwarded, so if you plan to be out of town this fall make sure you complete an absentee request form to let us know your temporary address. Forms are available on our website at The deadline for submitting these requests is Tuesday, October 25.

Monday, Oct. 3 is the last date to register to vote, or update your residence address if you’ve moved, to be eligible to participate in the election. Register online at, or obtain a voter registration application form at under "Voting and Elections" on the left hand side, or at Clerk & Recorder offices located in Avon, El Jebel and Eagle as well as at all town clerk offices throughout Eagle County. Completed forms can be faxed, emailed or mailed, but must be received or postmarked on or before Oct. 3.

We will publish the official ballot content along with the polling locations, information on voting options and deadlines in the Eagle Valley Enterprise, Vail Daily and Aspen Daily News on Thursday, Oct. 13 in the “Legal Notices” section. This information will also be available on our website at as soon as the final ballot layout is complete, typically in late September. Please be aware that although all races and issues will be published, your eligibility to vote on a particular race or issue depends on where you reside.

If you are anxious to know how Eagle County voted and plan to stay up late on election night, results should be posted after 10 p.m. Nov. 1 to our Twitter page as well as to our website at
