Overview

The first five years are crucial to a child’s lifelong success. Eagle County Department of Human Services recognizes that early childhood education builds the foundation for a healthy and productive future – not just for children, but for parents, families and local businesses too., The Eagle County early childhood care and education system,is experiencing high levels of turn-over resulting in a shortage of early childhood professionals, including teachers, assistant teachers and teacher aides. This creates an environment in which it is challenging to meet the growing need for care for young children in Eagle County.

To support early childhood providers and help create an environment in which we can collectively expand our capacity to meet the growing need, Eagle County Department of Human Services will continue three initiatives piloted in 2018 These programs are; Infant and Toddler Subsidy for Licensed Care, Early Childhood Educators Salary Supplement, and the Early Childhood Staff Recruitment and New Hire Incentives.

Infant and Toddler Subsidy

This program is designed to provide a subsidy to licensed child care programs to cover the discrepancy between the tuition and the cost to provide care, allowing centers to keep teacher to child ratios lower thus increasing quality and overall capacity.  Funding is available for licensed centers or home providers serving infants and toddler ages 6 weeks to 36 months located in Eagle County. Programs must have a fiscal agreement with Colorado Child Care Assistance Program (CCCAP), and be rated a level 2 or higher under Colorado Shines guidelines.Online applications are accepted for this program July 1-31, 2019 and will be posted on July 1, 2019. Subsidy payments are based on the programs CO Shines Rating. Please review the Infant and Toddler Subsidy Funding application requirements to see if you qualify.

Early Childhood Educators Salary Supplement

The salary supplement program was developed to retain a diverse pool of early childhood educators and encourage professional development to increase quality teaching practices. Educators must be employed a minimum of 60 days at an Eagle County based early childhood program and work at least 30 hours per week. They must be registered in the Colorado Shines Professional Development Information System (PDIS). Supplements are based on teacher credential level and years of service at their current employer. Please review the Early Childhood Educators Salary Supplement application requirements to see if you qualify. Online applications are accepted for this program January 1- December 15, 2019 and will be processed quarterly according to the schedule in the application. You can find the online application here

Early Childhood Staff Recruitment/New Hire Incentives

Incentives are intended to encourage individuals from other industries to join the early childhood profession and encourage the community to refer potential early childhood staff. This program is available to new early childhood professionals or professionals new to Eagle County. Licensed child care centers must be located in Eagle County. Both the recruiter and new hire will receive an incentive. Recruiter incentive is $750 and New Hire incentive is $500. Please review the Early Childhood Staff Recruitment/New Hire Incentives application requirements to see if you qualify.  Online applications are accepted for this program Jan. 1- Dec. 15, 2019. You can find the online application here
