Overview

The first five years are crucial to a child’s lifelong success. Eagle County Department of Human Services recognizes that early childhood education builds the foundation for a healthy and productive future – not just for children, but for parents, families and local businesses too.

Services and initiatives at Eagle County Department of Human Services include the Early Head Start program, the Infant and Toddler Subsidy Funding initiative, and the Early Childhood Professional Salary Supplement initiative.

If you are a licensed child care provider serving infants and toddlers in the Eagle River Valley, you may be eligible to receive subsidy funding. Please review the Infant and Toddler Subsidy Funding parameters and eligibility requirements to see if you qualify. If you would like to apply to receive these funds, please complete this online application. The deadline to apply for this funding is July 31, 2018.

If you are an Early Childhood professional in the Eagle River Valley, and have been working at a licensed facility for one year or more, you may be eligible to receive a salary supplement. Please review the application information and required forms to see if you qualify. If you would like to apply to receive the Early Childhood Professional Salary Supplement, please complete this online application. The deadline to apply for the salary supplement is Dec. 15, 2018 (If your anniversary is between Dec. 15 and 31, you will still be eligible, but please submit your application by the 15.) Applications will be processed at the end of each month.

As of Oct. 1, Eagle County is also offering incentives for current employees who recruit new employees into the Early Childhood profession. Those recruited or hired before the start date of the program are not eligible to receive these program incentives.

Currently, the Eagle County early childhood system, especially the large child care centers, is experiencing high levels of turn-over resulting in a lack of early childhood professionals, including teachers, assistant teachers and teacher aides. Current employees who recruit a new employee at a licensed child care facility may be eligible to receive $750 as an incentive (payable after new hire completes 30 days of employment). Additionally, new employees may be eligible to receive $500 after 30 days of employment at a licensed child care facility. Please review the eligibility requirements and application instructions prior to submitting an online application. To apply for the recruitment and new hire incentives, center directors must fill out this application. Recruiters and new hires will then have to complete a follow up survey in order for funds to be released.

*Note: Early childhood initiatives in the Roaring Fork Valley portion of Eagle County are managed through a contract with the Aspen Community Foundation.
