Colorado State University Extension offers canning at altitude lecture and workshop

Oct. 19, 2016 - Colorado State University Extension and the Master Food Safety Advisors will introduce the pleasures of preserving and the science of home canning at a Canning at Altitude class on Saturday, Oct. 29.  

The class is scheduled from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Golden Eagle Senior Center, located at 715 Broadway in Eagle.  Participants will first hear research-based recommendations for safely preserving food during a lecture. After the lecture, participants will learn to preserve apple pie filling and pickled cauliflower.  

A demonstration of the Ball® FreshTECH Automatic Jam & Jelly Maker will also take place during the class.  The device automatically stirs jam or jelly while it cooks.  Once the jams and jellies are made, the water bath canning method is used to safely process and preserve them. 

Pre-registration for the Canning at Altitude class is required by Wednesday, Oct. 26.  The cost for the class is $25. Early registration is encouraged as space is limited. On the day of the workshop, attendees are asked to bring an apron, lunch and a water bottle.
