CSU Extension to offer 2017 Master Food Safety Advisor Program

Jan. 24, 2017 – Community members with an interest in food safety, food science or food preservation are invited to attend Colorado State University Extension’s Master Food Safety Advisor (MFSA) program. The program will take place at the Garfield County Extension Office Event Hall, 1001 Railroad Avenue in Rifle, on Wednesdays from Feb. 8 through March 8. Those wishing to participate are required to submit an application for selection, attend all trainings and commit to a minimum of 30 volunteer hours.

The MFSA regional training primarily focuses on food safety and prevention of foodborne illness, as well as methods of canning, pickling, freezing and dehydrating. Volunteers hours can be spent answering consumer phone calls; providing information at local farmers markets, county fairs, or supermarkets; conducting presentations and workshops for community groups and schools; preparing educational displays; and/or writing articles for newsletters and newspapers.

Trainings will be conducted on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Feb. 8. The cost of the training is $145 and space is limited. Applications are available at the Eagle County Extension Office at 441 Broadway in Eagle or online at www.eaglecounty.us/CSU. Applications are due by Feb. 1.
