CSU Extension and Eagle River Watershed Council offer workshop on sustainable gardening and landscaping

Aug. 29, 2017 – CSU Extension and Eagle River Watershed Council will host a free workshop, “Putting your Garden to Bed: River-Friendly Landscaping & Gardening,” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8 at the Brush Creek Pavilion in Eagle.

The workshop is geared toward homeowners and landscapers who are looking to learn more about river-friendly practices that maintain a healthy and beautiful landscape with year-round appeal. Lunch will be provided as part of the event. 

Topics include:

  • The effect of landscaping on rivers and streams.
  • Water efficient irrigation and gardening.
  • Compost and its role in healthy gardens
  • Alternatives to turf and how to transition to them.
  • Integrated pest management strategies to avoid undesirable bugs and pathogens.
  • Fire resistant landscaping.

Speakers include Shawn Bruckman of Vail Honeywagon and Ground Up, Nick Courtens from Betty Ford Alpine Gardens, Mark Chenoweth from Grand Junction Pipe, Joe Gilles from the Town of Avon, Eric Lovgren of Eagle County’s Wildfire Mitigation Program, Lizzie Schoder of Eagle River Watershed Council, and Jeff Pieper from CSU Extension.
