Rabbit Tattooing and Poultry Tagging

Rabbit Tattooing
Attention all rabbit members - mark your calendar for Tuesday, June 25 at 6 p.m. at the Fairgrounds. All rabbits that do not have a tattoo (either market or breeding) must have a tattoo in order to show at the County Fair.  If your rabbit does not already have a tattoo, plan to bring your rabbit(s) at this time to get them tattooed. If your rabbit(s) is already tattooed, the tattoo must be verified before June 25. You can do this by bringing your rabbit(s) to the tattoo night or bringing your rabbit(s) to the Extension Office. Either way, all rabbits must either be tattooed or have their tattoo verified by June 25. Thank you in advance.

Poultry Tagging
Market Poultry animals must be banded in order to show at the County Fair and sell in the Junior Livestock Auction. The poultry tagging will be on Tuesday June 25 at 6 p.m. at the Fairgrounds (beside the Exhibit Hall). Bring all your market birds at this time to be officially banded and eligible to show at the County Fair.

Cloverbud Camp – “Experiencing the Great Outdoors”
Calling all kids ages 5, 6 and 7!  Join us on Tuesday, July 2 from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. for 4-H Cloverbud Camp at the Exhibit Hall. No cost to attend! CSU Extension Staff, Tracy and Jenny will be teaching about wildlife and the great outdoors. Lunch and snacks will be provided. Call the Extension Office by June 28 to sign up. You do not have to be a 4-H member to attend.

Club Booths at County Fair
Displaying a club booth at the County Fair is an exciting way to showcase your 4-H club and also serves as a great 4-H promotional tool for Fair goers. We are asking each club to display such a booth.  The theme for this year is “4-H Recruitment”. Use your imagination for the sky is the limit.  A good educational booth has a general appearance of being neat and attractive with the core values and benefits of 4-H highlighted while incorporating the theme (4-H Recruitment). As an added incentive, every club that displays a booth and follows these simple guidelines will receive $25.

Club booths will set up on Sunday, July 21 from 4 - 7 p.m. in the Eagle River Center. All club booths must be set up by 7:00 p.m Sunday evening. If your club would like to sign up for a booth space, please call the Extension Office by July 15.

Record Book Tip of the Month
4-H members should have already begun working in their 4-H Record Book.  Remember, Record Books are required for completion of every 4-H project. If you have not yet down-loaded your book, do so by going here. It works well to print your record book as well as save it to your computer. As the 4-H year progresses, you can hand-write in your hard copy and then transfer to the book saved on your computer. Record Books for in-building projects are turned in with the project at County Fair. Livestock, including dog and horse record books are due Monday, August 19.

Tip for Livestock Projects: Remember to record maintenance in the health record. For example, cleaning pens, trimming hooves, fly prevention, shearing and clipping should all be recorded in the health record.

Tip for General Projects: Make sure each goal is a S.M.A.R.T. goal: Is it Specific? Is it Measurable? Is it Attainable? Is it Relevant? Is it Timely? Answering these questions when thinking of a goal will definitely result in a really great goal!

There will be a record book workshop on Thursday, June 27 from 2 – 4 p.m. in the Exhibit Hall at the Fairgrounds. Plan to bring your record book, get your questions answered, and spend some time filling it out.

County Fair Schedule
Check out the on-line calendar for a complete County Fair schedule.

Important updates from the Junior Livestock Sale Commission

Marketing
Marketing brochures and magnets will be available for pick up in the Extension Office on June 15.  In addition to distributing these brochures, we encourage every 4-Her selling an animal at the livestock auction to create a personal portfolio to give to potential buyers.  It’s a good idea to contact at least five potential buyers for every animal you plan to sell.
