Fourth of July pet care reminders

Contact: Animal Services at 970-328-3647

June 27, 2016 - With the upcoming Fourth of July weekend, pet owners are reminded to take extra care with frightened pets. High-pitched fireworks can make pets anxious and panicked, causing them to bolt through any opening to escape. Eagle County Animal Services picks up numerous lost and frightened pets every Fourth of July weekend.

Take the time to secure your pet in a quiet place inside your home during any fireworks displays, and be sure all pets are wearing collars and tags, or are microchipped, in the event they escape. There are also pet tranquilizers available from your veterinarian if you feel your pet needs medication.

If your pet does escape, please alert Animal Services immediately. The sooner we know, the sooner we can reunite you.
