Application and FAQs

May 10, 2016 – The Eagle County Board of Commissioners is seeking community members to serve on a newly formed Animal Services Advisory Committee. The group will provide input on policies and priorities regarding animal sheltering and services.

Applications are due by June 3. Interviews with the commissioners will take place during the week of June 13.

Commissioner Jeanne McQueeney, chair of the board, says the committee will help the county understand the community’s needs and expectations with regard to animal services. "We know our community cares deeply for animals,” said McQueeney. “This committee will give us a direct connection to those with a passion for and knowledge of animal care,” she said.

The Animal Services Advisory Committee will be comprised of seven members with expertise and interest in animal care and welfare. Focus areas will include the physical and behavioral health of animals; housing and transport of animals; spaying, neutering and population management; facility improvements; public health; and consideration of other topics as needed. The committee will not have any management responsibilities, nor will it direct staff.

Meetings are expected to occur monthly until the end of the year, then change to once every two months starting in 2017. Initial committee appointments will be for one, two and three year terms. For more information, contact Deputy County Manager Aric Otzelberger at 970-328-8858.
