County animal shelter services to change

Contact: Aric Otzelberger, Deputy County Manager, 970-328-8858 or

March 11, 2016 - Eagle County’s Animal Services Department is undergoing operational changes which will affect services available at the facility. As of March 9, services have been generally narrowed to animal control and pet licensing.

Community members wishing to adopt or surrender animals are asked to contact the Eagle Valley Humane Society at 970-328-7387 in Eagle; Colorado Animal Rescue at 970-947-9173 in Glenwood; or other animal rescue facilities. Eagle County’s shelter will no longer offer animal adoptions, surrenders or vaccination clinics.

For assistance with animals at large, aggressive animals or animal bites, excessive barking, or other animal control issues, call Eagle County Animal Services 970-328-3647.

Cruelty investigations will be handled by local law enforcement agencies. Call 970-479-2201 to report suspected animal cruelty in the Eagle Valley. For animal issues within the Town of Basalt, contact the Basalt Police Department at 970-927-4316.

The changes are being made to streamline operations and to reduce the duplication of efforts by several organizations. For more information, contact Deputy County Manager Aric Otzelberger at 970-328-8858.
