Animal Services to undergo pet licensing system upgrade

Contact: Nathan Lehnert, Animal Services Field Manager, 970-328-3647,

Nov. 30, 2016 – Residents wishing to renew a pet license with Eagle County Animal Shelter & Services are being asked to wait until February 2017 as the department works to transition the process to an online system.  All 2016 licenses will be considered valid until the new system is in place

“There are two major changes to the pet licensing system, which are intended to simplify the process and maintain accurate records of dogs living in the county,” said Nathan Lehnert, animal services field manager. “The new program will provide an online registration and payment option, as well as longer licensing periods to coincide with a dog's rabies vaccination.”

Dog licensing is required by law. The process allows Eagle County Animal Services to identify and return lost dogs before impounding them, and helps to track rabies vaccinations to ensure a rabies-resistant community.

Additional information on the new licensing system will be available in early 2017. For more information, contact Lehnert at 970-328-3647.
