What We Do

Landfill Facts
Landfill management has changed dramatically over the years.  The era of unmanned, open burning dumps is gone. Local, state and federal regulations now dictate landfill operations.

Oil and Batteries
Eagle County Landfill cannot accept motor oil, antifreeze or auto/truck batteries but the newly constructed Household Hazardous Waste Facility does accept these. We've also provided a list of businesses  that do accept these items for the convenience of our customers.

Accounts
For customers who access the landfill frequently, Eagle County offers charge accounts with approved credit .

Fees
Landfill disposal fees are based upon weight; charged on a per ton basis depending upon the type of material.  The fee structure is approved by the Eagle County Board of Commissioners and is subject to periodic adjustment.

Policies
Local, state and federal regulations mandate certain policies the landfill must follow to stay in compliance. These policies include covering loads, freon removal and high wind.

Recycling
Alliance Recycle
is now providing recycling opportunities for residents through a drop-off program at collection sites located throughout the county. For further information about recycling please call the alliance at 970-569-3890.

Household Hazardous Waste Facility
The Eagle County Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and Small Business Hazardous Waste Collection Facility (CESQG) is now open to the public. The new facility is located at the landfill north of Wolcott. For more information visit the HHW Web page or call 970-328-3463

The landfill provides a solid waste facility for Eagle County residents and an environmentally safe containment area for all acceptable refuse while insuring compliance with all federal, state, and county regulations.

Location
Eagle County Landfill is located two miles north of Wolcott off of Highway 131.

  • Turn right from Highway 131 just past the two mile marker onto County Road 49.
  • Follow this road until it forks, about a mile, and take the left fork.

RECON

Construction contractors and do-it-yourselfers in Eagle County who have previously had no alternative to dumping quality used and surplus building materials in the landfill now have a solution.  RECON, a building materials exchange, is now open next to the Eagle County Landfill.  Instead of dumping this material in the landfill, RECON offers a place where this re-useable material can be dropped off and put back into the re-use system.

Hours of operation:  Fridays and Saturdays – 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pick-up and drop-off are available by appointment.  Call 970-569-3890 or 970-376-8797 for more information.

Location:  ¼ mile south of the Eagle County Landfill on the landfill access road, north of Wolcott off of Highway 131.
