AnnualReport20143KathyChandler-HenryJeanneMcQueeneyJillRyanItiswithgreatpridethatwelookbackat2014andrelectonoursuccesses.DuringthecourseotheyearsigniicantprogresswasmadetowardurtheringourstrategicprioritiesincludingQualityServicesSocialInvestmentEconomicVitalitySustainableCommunitiesandEnvironmentalStewardship.Theseiveareasrepresentourcommitmenttoprovidingexemplaryservicesnowwhilebuildingtheoundationorasecureutureorourcountysresidents.WorkingamiliesarethebackboneoourcommunityandourocusintheareaoSocialInvestment.WehelpedoneothelargestchildcarecentersinthevalleyreorganizeandkeepitsdoorsopenandincreasedthenumberoslotsavailablethroughourChildCareAssistanceProgram.Wevealsoworkedhardtoillthegapinprovidingservicestoourvaluedcommunityelders.AugustanaCareourpartnerinbringingtheCastlePeakSeniorCareCommunitytoruitionhasmetitsinitialundraisinggoalandishardatworkonconstructionplans.Thisacilitywillprovideservicesthatarelongoverduewehopeyouwilljoinusoramuch-anticipatedgroundbreakingin2015.WearecommittedtourtheringtheobjectivesoutlinedintheEagleCountyEconomicDevelopmentPlananinnovativepublicprivatepartnership.TheplanisdesignedtocreatenewopportunitiesandjobswithinEagleCountybybroadeningtheeconomicbaseinexistingareasostrengthwhilehelpingtosupportdevelopingindustries.Followingatwo-yeareortbyacitizenadvisorycommitteeandstathe20-yearmasterplanortheEagleCountyRegionalAirportwasupdatedandadoptedin2014.TheplanidentiieskeyinrastructureneedstomeetuturedemandsattheairportacommunityassetonwhichtheEconomicVitalityoourregiondepends.WevealsoadvocatedorimprovedwintermanagementotheI-70MountainCorridorresultinginaColoradoDepartmentoTransportationCDOTallocationo10milliontowardsolutionsorkeepingVailPassopenasofenaspossibleduringinclementweather.Ourareaseconomyisreliantonthisimportantcross-countryroute.Finallymultiplecountyoicesanddepartmentscontributedcountlesshourstowardplanningorthe2015FISAlpineWorldSkiChampionships.Signiicantresourceswerededicatedtopublicsaetyandtransportationduringthehighlysuccessuleventwhichwelcomedover200000spectatorsandwasbroadcastlivein27countriesandisexpectedtoraisetheproileoEagleCountyworldwide.InpartnershipwithCDOTandothersaprojecttowidentheshouldersonU.S.Hwy6throughAvonandEdwardswascompletedduringtheyearincreasingsaetyorbothmotoristsandcyclists.ECOTrailscompletedsegmentsotheEagleValleyTrailromAvontoEagleVailandromGypsumtoDotseroandECOTransitsawridershipincreaseby13percent.WeknowthatSustainableCommunitiesarebuiltonstrongmulti-modaltransportationconnectionsandweareactivepartnerswithlocalorganizationswhobuildandmaintainbikingandpedestriantrails.Inadditionover350residentsbusinessownersandcommunitygroupshavebeenengagedintheprocesstoupdatethe2003EdwardsAreaMasterPlan.Theprojectisslatedorcompletionin2015theplanwillbeusedtoguideuturelanduseandinrastructuredecisionsinthearea.WereproudoourHealthyCommunitiesIndexandourworkwithcommunitypartnersinpublichealthandactiveliving.AsanexampleourHousingDepartmentbroughttheUrbanLandInstitutetotowntohelpplancommunityamenitiesortheLakeCreekVillageApartments.Our15x15initiativeadoptedin2013seekstoreduceenergyuelwaterandpaperusage15percentbytheendo2015andisinullswing.AndouropenspaceportoliocontinuestogrowwiththeadditionotheGlassierRanchintheRoaringForkValleyandSpencersCabinontheColoradoRiver.WevealsotakenaleadershiproleinpromotingwaterconservationacrossthestatethroughourinvolvementintheWaterQualityandQuantityCommitteeandarehardatworkprotectingwesternslopewaterintereststhroughtheStateWaterPlan.Partneringwithourareanon-proitsintheEagleandRoaringForkrivervalleysisacrucialpieceoourenvironmentaleorts.EnvironmentalStewardshipmeanspreservingnaturalresourceswhilealsoinvestinginalternativeenergysources.Lastyeara77-kilowattsolarphotovoltaicsystemwasinstalledatoptheEagleRiverCenter.Movingorwardinvestmentsinsolarpowerwillbeamajorstrategyinreducinggreenhousegasesandsavingoncosts.AllthewhilewetrustyouvebeneitedromtheQualityServicesallEagleCountyemployeesprovideeachandeveryday.Fromront-lineteammemberswhoensurecourteousandproessionalinteractionswithourcustomerstotheinternalservicedepartmentswhichsupporttheoperationsoalloicesanddepartmentsouremployeesarecommittedtoprovidingtimelyandrelevantprogramstothoseweserve.LookingaheadournewLeaninitiativewillenhanceourcontinuedcommitmenttoiscalstewardshipandmoveustowardgreatereicienciesinallthatwedo.Theseaccomplishmentsandmoreareoutlinedinthisannualreporttoyouourstakeholders.Welookorwardtohearingromyouin2015.MessagefromtheCommissioners
